They noted it on a post to the Team Vox blog on May 20th. Yet, I've seen nothing on the front. In fact, a few weeks ago, I was attacked in a coordinated spam attack, and those who perpetrated the attack still have active accounts on the system. I got hit by another spam message yesterday.
If Six Apart is going to be an absentee landlord to Vox, I may move to more controlled pastures. I still have my LJ account, and Tumblr is looking nicer every day.
Permanent link to this is http://sterlingnorth.vox.com/library/post/comment-span-on-vox.html because I originally misspelled "spam" in the title. I could repost the whole post to correct the URL, but that is more trouble than it's worth.
[September 16, 2010 update: As Vox will disappear after September, much of this post is irrelevant, and any Vox links will be dead. But for the sake of the historical record, I would like to note that the immediate posting on the "Team Vox" blog after the post mentioned above about comment spam is the September 2nd post about the closure of Vox. Ah, hell, I'm going to repost the piece, for the LULZ:
Clever how they solved that spam problem, huh?]As many of you have noticed, Vox has experienced a surge of comment spam in recent days. We are working on this problem and will update you as soon as there is news.
In the meantime, one way to avoid comment spam from appearing on your blog is to set it to only auto-publish comments from people in your neighborhood. Here's how to do that:
1. Go to the Account link in the top navigation.
2. Click Privacy & Defaults in the left-hand navigation.
3. Under "Comment approval, select "automatically allow comments from "my entire neighborhood."
Everyone in your neighborhood will still be able to comment automatically. People who are not in your neighborhood, however, will see the following message: "Thank you! Your comment will be published with the blog owner approves it."
To approve or delete a comment, just go to the post or item with the moderated comment. You can easily see which comments have not been approved because they will be shown in a box with the text, "This comment has not been approved and doesn't appear to anyone else but you." All you have to do is click "Approve" or "Delete."
Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue.
